Pupils Jarne Napret and Peter Gregersen (17) from the Hamburg school at Lämmermarkt are delighted to receive the bag filled with nuts and almond kernels from Keyaniyan employee Jila Ali-Zai. “As part of a school project, we are currently collecting food for the ‘St Georg hilft’ campaign of the St. Georg-Borgfelde Lutheran parish,” Jarne Napret explains their social commitment. Fellow pupil Peter Gregersen adds: “The aim of the project is to help those in need in our town and to support aid organizations by using our contacts as a well-connected school.”
“St. Georg hilft” project
For over 25 years, the soup kitchen of the Holy Trinity Church of St. Georg at Hamburg's main railway station has been providing hot meals for the homeless and needy once a week. In cooperation with Hamburger Tafel, the 10-strong soup kitchen team also regularly distributes donated food. A Caritas ambulance provides accompanying medical care, while the parish office provides pastoral support if required.
Jarne Napret and Peter Gregersen are pleased with the results of the school project: "All 24 pupils in our class tried to collect donations for ‘St. Georg hilft’ and were quite successful.
It has been very motivating for us to help those in need with food and at the same time reduce the widespread food waste in the city." And Keyaniyan is pleased to have made a small contribution to this wonderful project.
